AIRPLAY 40 on NOW Radio is a popular radio program that broadcasts the Top 40 Singles Chart1. The chart is compiled from station airplay on over 250 English speaking radio stations around the globe1. The show reflects what’s hot and what’s not in the music world, featuring only the music listeners have been tuning into1.

The man behind AIRPLAY 40 is Spencer James, a media veteran with over two decades of broadcasting experience2. He has held various roles, including programming controller for the UK’s first bi-lingual student radio station, Production & Promotions Manager for one of Spain’s biggest English radio networks, and host of various drive time and breakfast shows on stations in the southeast of the UK2. His passion for the media started in television, where he became a first assistant director for a couple of short films, one of which was BAFTA nominated2.

The idea for a chart show for radio stations broadcasting to expatriates was conceived by Spencer in the spring of 2008, and from that, The eXpat Chart was born2. Fast forward 3 years, and the show had expanded to a bigger audience than ever before expected. As a result, the name was changed and at the start of 2013, the chart became known as Airplay402.

Broadcasting on NOW Radio, AIRPLAY 40 brings the best of the 80s to the present across Scotland3. With an audience of over 3.1 million listeners, it is the only chart that reflects what listeners are hearing on their local radio station4. Whether you’re a fan of the classics or curious about the hits of today, AIRPLAY 40 on NOW Radio has something for everyone.
