Alongside its enduring viral dance challenge, a massive wave of streams and downloads rushed into digital music outlets in response to Tyla‘s stunning performance of her breakout hit, ‘Water,’ at ‘The Tonight Show’ last week.
The surge was so big it’s landed the South African hitmaker in previously uncharted territory on the hitlist.
Having already made a historic splash on the Hot 100 when it premiered on the all-genre chart three weeks ago, the Sammy Soso-produced bop is en route to even more record-setting achievements courtesy of a 25-spot jump on the refreshed Hot 100.
Found at #46 just last week, here are the numbers that powered its hop to #21.
Already the highest-charting South African female act in the 65-year history of the Hot 100, should the song crack the top 20 she’ll be the first songstress from the country to place in the chart region.
Among all acts, Hugh Masekela remains the Hot 100’s highest-charting South African as his 1968 hit, ‘Grazing in the Grass,’ was planted at #3 on the tally at the height of its popularity.
Look below to see who joins Tyla on the updated TGJ Chart Check: Hot 100.
