Man charged with false imprisonment in Dublin

A 33-year-old man has been charged with the false imprisonment of a man who was missing for several days after being abducted in Dublin.

Hung Dam, a Vietnamese national with an address at Monaghan Street, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, appeared before Judge Treasa Kelly at Dublin District Court and had bail set at €3,000.

He is charged with false imprisonment on 2 November, at Mayne River Street, Northern Cross, in Dublin.

Objecting to bail, Detective Garda Alan Davis told Judge Kelly he believed the accused was a “serious flight risk”.

Mr Dam’s solicitor Philip Denieffe said his client denies the allegations and maintains he was in a different area at the time.

The accused listened to the proceedings with the assistance of an interpreter.

Judge Kelly she set bail in his bond of €1,000 and ordered that a €2,000 independent surety had to be approved in court.

He must have an address approved by gardaí, remain contactable, not leave the jurisdiction, have no contact with witnesses, and, following release, sign on daily at his local garda station.

She remanded him in custody with consent to bail to appear again on 15 November at Cloverhill District Court.

A decision on whether legal aid would be granted was deferred.
